DINP demand expansion is unsatisfactoryRelease Date: 2014-03-28
The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has added DINP to California's Proposition 65 list of carcinogens, which became effective on December 20, 2013. According to Proposition 65 requirements, all products containing DINP sold in California must have a warning label. Starting from the effective date, companies have one year to remove DINP from their products or add a warning label.
It is worth noting that after this regulation takes effect, it will impact domestic manufacturing companies that export products using DINP as a raw material. Some downstream factories have already begun considering raw material issues, which will curb the expansion of DINP demand.

Export of children's products requires greater attention to new plasticizer regulations. Hong Kong stipulated in February that from July 1, 2014, restrictions will be implemented on the concentration of two types of plasticizers in different types of toys or children's products, which are basically consistent with the existing requirements of developed countries; the U.S. Congress recently introduced Bill S 2120 (i.e., the "Act to Extend the Ban on the Manufacture, Distribution, and Import of Children's Products Containing Phthalates (collectively referred to as plasticizers)"), to amend the "Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act", proposing to expand the scope of products covered by the old version of the phthalate restriction order from children's toys and childcare articles to all children's products. German chemical giant BASF announced that its non-phthalate plasticizer Hexamoll DINCH has doubled its production capacity.
Recently, BASF's second plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, has become operational, increasing its plasticizer capacity from the original 100,000 tons to 200,000 tons.
BASF stated that Hexamoll DINCH is developed for applications in products that have close contact with the human body, such as food packaging, medical devices, and toys. The application of this environmentally friendly plasticizer in flooring materials and wall coatings is also gradually increasing.
In the past few years, we have witnessed more and more customers adopting this as a replacement for traditional ortho-phthalates, and the market is gradually shifting towards non-phthalate alternatives.

Abstract: The rheological properties of polylactic acid (PLA) were adjusted and the compatibility, melt blending characteristics, microstructure, and mechanical properties of PLA/thermoplastic starch (TPS) blends were improved by using tributyl citrate (TBC) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as plasticizers. The results showed that TBC had a better modification effect than PEG; TBC could increase the dispersion uniformity of TPS, and the phase dispersion size was significantly reduced; The tensile strength and elongation at break of TBC-modified PLA/TPS were significantly improved, and the water absorption rate was smaller.
